Bio
Paul Andrew Lawrence was born and raised in Oslo, Norway. At the age of 14, one of Paul's teachers showed him how to make a black and white print in the darkroom. This early inspiration eventually brought him from Europe to the United States to pursue professional photography. A graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California, he has produced images for the oil, hotel, and tourism industries of Europe and North America. He has also shot and produced commercials, training films, and documentaries for television and corporate clients. He has been shooting professionally for 22 years.

Paul began to pursue the dream of flight in 1992, when he trained for his first pilot's license. Now the holder of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with over 4500 flight hours, he uses airplanes as a unique tool for exploring frontiers in photography. His own aircraft, a Cessna named "Beetlejuice", has been modified for applications to aerial photography and serves as a platform from which Paul is able to capture unique images of natural wonders such as mountains, glaciers, volcanoes, coastlines, and wilderness.

The same dream of flight brought Paul to the state of Alaska in 1995, seeking the wisdom and experience as a pilot that can only be gained in one of the most challenging flight environments the world has to offer. He has flown all over Alaska, and has had the opportunity not only to see the beauty of Alaska's wild places under fair skies, but also to battle foul weather and live to tell the tale.

Paul's "photographer's eye" sees a world filled with color, rich in detail and bestowed with varied moods. He is especially interested, for instance, in capturing the individual personalities of birds and other small animals. Paul's work employs a variety of media, from the large 11x14 view camera (which he has been working with for over 25 years) to today's modern digital cameras, HDV video, QTVR, and panoramic images.
